Wise vs Payoneer for international client payments

Neither is the right choice everywhere. Start with your residence, your client’s payment method and the amount reaching your bank.

Verdict: choose the route, not the brand

Choose Wise Business if you qualify for the receiving details you need and your client can pay through a supported route.

Choose Payoneer if your eligible business needs its supported commercial payment requests or receiving accounts, and the total costs fit.

Skip either option if you cannot confirm eligibility or an affordable route into your own bank account.

Four checks before you choose

A service’s sending-country list is not a promise that you can open an account or receive money there. Receiving features and account types need separate checks.

Can you open the account you need?

Wise
Check your country of residence and choose Personal or Business in Wise’s availability checker. Features differ by country.
Payoneer
Confirm eligibility for your country and business activity. Broad country coverage does not guarantee every product is available to you.

Can you receive the client’s currency?

Wise
Wise Business payment links need active account details. Non-Wise clients can pay a request only in currencies with your account details.
Payoneer
Check which receiving accounts and request-payment methods your account offers. Each payment method has its own currencies and limits.

Is this the right kind of payment?

Wise
Check the terms for your account type and the payment route. This comparison covers Wise Business payment links, not every Wise feature.
Payoneer
Request a Payment is for commercial payments between businesses, including professionals. It is not consumer checkout, gifts or self-loading.

What will reach your bank?

Wise
Most bank-transfer receipts through payment links are free, but USD-wire and CAD-SWIFT exceptions exist. Conversion and other route costs still matter.
Payoneer
Receiving, conversion and withdrawal charges can all matter. Check minimum charges, account fees and your own currency route before comparing.

Ask the client how they will pay

Payoneer lists US-only ACH debit and UK-only direct bank transfer among its request-payment methods. Other local bank-transfer methods have their own payer and location restrictions. A card option does not mean every card will work.

Some Payoneer customers must receive $5,000 before payment requests become available; check whether this applies to your account. Do not promise a client a request link before confirming access.

Wise Business links require at least one active set of account details. A non-Wise client’s available currencies depend on those details. Confirm the currency and payment instructions before sending an invoice.

Compare the full receipt-to-bank cost

Write down the receiving fee, currency conversion, withdrawal fee and any minimum or account charge. Agree with the client who pays any payment-request fee. Compare the final bank amount in the same currency.

Payoneer’s published annual account fee is $29.95 when receipts fall below $6,000 equivalent in any 12 consecutive months. Plan and regional qualifications apply; check your account’s fee schedule. This matters particularly when you receive only occasional payments.

Neither provider’s headline receiving price proves the whole route is free. Request the current fees for your location and currency instead of relying on a universal percentage.
